Every Monday we will be bringing you an unsigned singer or band as part of our Independent Music Monday feature. This week, we caught up with unsigned singer Danny Smart to find out more about him…
Where are you from?
Barnsley, South Yorkshire.
How did you first get into music?
Reluctantly had guitar lessons at school and then found the music of Johnny Cash and have been hooked ever since.
Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Bob Dylan, Muddy Waters, Jimi Hendrix, Rod Stewart.
How would you describe your sound?
Country, Soul, Blues.
What’s your local music scene like?
It could be way better but some promoters really try and get things going and it’s good to see something finally being done for the music scene!
What do you have planned for the next 12 months? Any albums or festivals?
I have had a busy summer playing with my band around Yorkshire for Live In Barnsley Festival, Staxtonbury Festival and playing West Street Live for Sheffield’s Tramlines Weekend. I have a new EP coming out on 12/08/16 which I hope will take me and my music further afield!
Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
I would love to collaborate with Ed Sheeran as he’s a great songwriter and Jason Isbell or John Mayer? Loads of great artists!
Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
Luckily none of us have fell off the stage or anything yet but who knows what’s to come! (We are miserable aren’t we?)
What is the one thing that you want readers to know about you?
That the most important thing about my music and live performances is that people are having a good time listening!
