Every Monday we will be bringing you an unsigned singer or band as part of our Independent Music Monday feature. This week, we caught up with Peter Bayfield find out more about him…
Where are you from and how did you first get into music?
I’m Peter B and I’m a singer/songwriter from Essex. My brand new single is called 'We Are Just Friends' which is a song about all my friends, it is basically giving that message that you can meet your friends anywhere, and if they stay a true friend you will be friends with them in the end. I would say that I first got into music by joining a school choir and a performing arts group singing with a group of my friends. Since leaving this performing arts group, I’ve recently gone solo and started writing my own music mainly about a topic of what is going on at that time in my life.
Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
The artist that I would say really influenced me when growing up was Jessie J as I felt her music motivated me to live my dreams, the song ‘Who You Are’ in particular. This song kind of gave me that message to be yourself and that it doesn’t matter who you are, you are still capable to do what you want to do in life. I feel that Olly Murs has kind of influenced me a bit now especially for my song ‘I Love You So’ which is being released as a single very soon.
How would you describe your sound?
I love my sound in the music that I have recorded as you can tell that the songs are original and in the remix of my song 'You Need To Know Me' produced by Giorgio which is now available on Apple Music and Spotify to stream, it gives that clubby vibe out, which I love as this song in particular can be played at people's parties and nightclubs which I wouldn’t of been able to have done with the normal song.
What do you have planned for the next 12 months? Any albums or festivals?
During the next 12 months I hope to get back into gigging and performing around the country, I would love to write more original songs to release future albums. Last year I released my first EP called 'Being 18' which is available to buy on peterbmusic.bandcamp.com and on my music glue site. This EP features 5 of my favourite songs that I wrote throughout 2015/2016. I have got a new album coming out sometime this year called 'Now I’m 19' so watch out for that.
Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
I would really love to collaborate with Jessie J one day, this is something that I have always said by the way. I think compared to other artists the reason why I want to collaborate with Jessie J is because of the inspiration her music gives me.
Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
The funniest story of one time when I was performing live is that I didn’t realise that the microphone was switched off and I started singing and had to switch the mic on during the performance, hoping that nobody else had noticed anything.
What is the one thing that you want readers to know about you?
To conclude this I would just like to say that I love writing original music, I feel by having an original song and not just doing covers, it makes me into my own original artist more. I appreciate everyone’s support with my music and can’t wait to bring more music out for you all very soon.
