Every Monday we will be bringing you an unsigned singer or band as part of our Independent Music Monday feature. This week, we caught up with Messy Bird find out more about them...

Who is in the band?
Jon Thorley - Drums
Christian Morris - guitar/vocals
Daniel Seccombe - Baritone Guitar/vocals

How did you meet?
We formed in summer 2018. The lyrics were the hardest part for us when we approached songwriting, so we came up with a way that just felt right. We actually wrote to each other nonsense poems that we would send to one another every fortnight for several months. We all met at Bath Spa Uni studying Contemporary Circus Technology.

Where are you from?
Jon - the Ocean
Chris - A book
Dan - A lanton

How did you come up with the band name?
We all have one thing in common but that's a secret…

Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
QOTSA, Them Crooked Vultures, Mother’s Cake, The Dead Weather, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Uncle Acid and The Deadbeats, Biffy Clyro, All Them Witches, Led Zeppelin, My Morning Jacket, The Raconteurs, Benny Greb, Snarky Puppy, Temples, Turbowolf, Vulfpeck.

How would you describe your sound?
Sounds like a nervous washing machine, set to rinse, through a fuzz pedal.

What’s your local music scene like?
The Brighton music scene is like mums picking up their child from an after school chess club that's been laced with checkers.

What do you have planned for the next 12 months? Any albums or festivals?
The pipeline for us is more of a rubber tube - we are planning on releasing 4 more singles - keep your ears free.

Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
Now 56 + Prince.

Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
One of the best gigs we ever play’d we forgot to show up to…

What is the one thing that you want readers to know about your band?
In all seriousness we record everything in one take to capture the spontaneous and live feel from our shows - take it home with you.
