Every Monday we will be bringing you an unsigned singer or band as part of our Independent Music Monday feature. This week, we caught up with Deep City Diver find out more about them…

Who is in the band, how did you meet, where are you from and how did you come up with the band name?
Deep City Diver are Nico (Vocals/Guitar), Joe (Bass) and Ryan (Drums). Comprising members from Stoke-on-Trent and Sydney, the band actually met in Hackney, East London where they currently all reside. The band name is taken from the debut album by The A.M., which was one of Nico's favourite records growing up.

Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
The Smiths were (and continue to be) massively influential for us. In recent months, Alvvays, Robyn and Phoenix have been influencing our writing.

How would you describe your sound?
We've been described us as 'epic guitar pop' and that feels pretty close to the mark.

What is your latest single called and what was the influence behind it?
Our brand new single is called ‘Everyone Is Alone’. An impassioned outsider anthem, it's our indie disco dance floor filler for solo dancing in the bedroom mirror. Teetering between despondent and defiant throughout, it's an emotionally-charged party tune with a mega-wattage chorus. We had a lot of fun filming the music video, which involved a late night karaoke session after a few too many rounds at Wetherspoons!

What’s your local music scene like?
It's an incredibly exciting, fertile and varied environment. There's always something happening and we've had a great time so far getting to know and enjoy other bands. Locks and Dark Tides are two local artists worth looking up on Spotify right now.

What do you have planned for the next 12 months? Any albums or festivals?
Our self-titled debut album is out digitally and on limited run vinyl on Friday 6 October 2017.

Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
Nile Rodgers, without a shadow of a doubt.

What is the one thing that you want readers to know about your band?
We wholeheartedly support Stoke City F.C.
