Every Monday we will be bringing you an unsigned singer or band as part of our Independent Music Monday feature. This week, we caught up with Jack Hopkinson find out more about him...

Where are you from?
I'm from a small town in Warwickshire called Kenilworth.

Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
My main influences as a youngun' were people like The Beatles and also music my parents would listen to. I went through a Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit stage for a little bit too.
Now, I'm influenced by artists such as Foy Vance, James Taylor and other folk Americana artists.

How would you describe your sound?
I'd describe my sound as a mixture between James Taylor and The Bros. Landreth as well as Foy Vance and Jamie Lawson. Straight up folk singer-songwriter songs about relationships and life with a full band which includes a Pedal Steel. Its not quite country but it is in that area.

What is your latest single called and what was the influence behind it?
My most recent single is called "Deja Vu" It's available on all major streaming and downloading sites. Listen here on Spotify. It's from my EP Secondhand Love.

What’s your local music scene like?
My local scene is really supportive you'll see all the same faces at local nights and gigs they become good friends rather than people who just play. everyone backs and encourages each other.

What do you have planned for the next 12 months? Any albums or festivals?
I'm currently writing and recording my debut album and looking doing a crowd funder to help with that which is exciting. I have a pre and post release tour coming up with an Autumn national tour this year too. its good to be busy. :D

Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
I'd love to collaborate with Foy Vance and Joey Landreth and I really feel I could learn a lot from them. Well I'd learn a lot no matter who I collaborated with.

Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
I once had a heckler who asked for some really odd songs that I just didn't know. they then asked for a few more and when I politely said "sorry I don't know any of those songs" his reply was... "well you're just shit then aren't you?" I was literally lost for words.

What is the one thing that you want readers to know about you?
I am just a guy who writes songs, I blooming love singing them and hope that people relate to my words. If you dig it then cool if you don't then that's cool too.
