The New Faith
Every Monday we will be bringing you an unsigned singer or band as part of our Independent Music Monday feature. This week, we caught up with Will from The New Faith find out more about them...
Who is in the band, how did you meet, where are you from and how did you come up with the band name?
Will - Vox
Sam - Guitar
Ali - Bass
Stephen - Drums
Jenna - Keys
Sam and I met through a Gumtree ad, the rest from various internet posts, local band mates, local mates mates and mates mates. But met up with in the following ways which I think sums it up:
Stephen - Pub
Ali - Coffee shop
Sam - Pub
Jenna - Running with phones in the street
I came up with the name for a brainstorming session with everyone, something ironic and massively sarcastic given that no-one rates us!
Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
Anything that wasn’t on the radio, DIY punk bands and sometimes, really sickly emo bands. Nowadays, mostly rappers!
How would you describe your sound?
Grandiose and ultimately, depressing.
What is your latest single called and what was the influence behind it?
The new single is called Fritter Away and was out on Friday 1st September! It's about passing on the message to a younger-you to warn of future mistakes and being lost in the middle of the world trying to navigate it.
What’s your local music scene like?
It's good, we’ve got so many great local bands and indie promoters, we’re playing with Other States, Supermarket and Whiskey for the Wounded in October, all Brighton bands and all fucking fantastic! There are great venues in Brighton from big to small, we’re playing in a beautiful bright white church in October called The Brighthelm.
What do you have planned for the next 12 months? Any albums or festivals?
Festivals, no :( so any comperes get in touch! Albums, we got one (massive) album coming in October called ‘Me on You’ which has, in no particular order; gospel choirs, saxophone solos, guitar-ing, piano-ing sing-ing and string sections (-ing).
Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
Nobody better than me.
Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
Funny like ‘Ha-ha’? Not so much, no-one's fallen over, or been sick on themselves yet, more funny things like, a laptop breaks, gaining Tinnitus and elbowing band members. Which is kind of funny if you’re into that sort of thing...
What is the one thing that you want readers to know about your band?
We ain’t manufactured and we don’t do covers.
