Every Monday we will be bringing you an unsigned singer or band as part of our Independent Music Monday feature. This week, we caught up with Youth Club find out more about them…
Who is in the band, how did you meet, where are you from and how did you come up with the band name?
Joe Fran, Gerry Duffield, Rees Broomfield and Danny Blanco make up Youth Club, we all met through playing on line ups on our previous bands projects and through mutual friends. Still to this day can't remember how we thought of the band name.
Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
We all grew up listening to a wide variation of music, I think that stands true to this day, we all connected over a mutual love for a band called Phoenix.
How would you describe your sound?
Tropical Pop. Fun. Sound of the Summer.
What is your latest single called and what was the influence behind it?
The Man That I Am was meant to be the more energetic and funky single, like Bruno Mars on Steroids.
What’s your local music scene like?
Southend is great. Has so many cool bands breaking and over time has a rich history of really cool bands who released some really cool records and are still pushing out wicked records, we actually share a studio with Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly who was a big influence for us growing up. And Phil Blake from Nothing But Thieves used to be our bassist.
What do you have planned for the next 12 months? Any albums or festivals?
New single. New EP. New tours, and a few festivals all to look forward to!
Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
Most of the people have passed away, we would of loved to collab with Prince.
Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
No way, we are all professionals, just kidding, we have tripped over and made fools of ourselves plenty of times. Once Joe jumped off the stage and couldn't get back up!
What is the one thing that you want readers to know about your band?
We are sh*t hot live.
