Every Monday we will be bringing you an unsigned singer or band as part of our Independent Music Monday feature. This week, we caught up with Hannah Scott find out more about her...
Where are you from and how did you first get into music?
I am from Suffolk and began learning the piano at around 5. I played classical music until I reached my early teens when it was not "cool" to do so anymore and then taught myself to play guitar. I started writing my own songs shortly after.
Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
My early influences were artists such as Counting Crows, Ryan Adams, Ray Lamontagne and I continue to listen to them today. Some of my favourite current artists include Christine and the Queens, John Smith and Foy Vance.
How would you describe your sound?
Contemporary Folk. Stefano Della Casa is my collaborator, co-writer and producer and the production combines organic, live elements with electronica.
What is your latest single called and what was the influence behind it?
My new single is called "Signs Of Life" and it's about not giving up hope even in the darkest moments.
What’s your local music scene like?
I live in London these days and there's so much going on here. When I first moved here, I was playing 3 or 4 times a week, all over the city. Now I pick and choose a bit more but still play regularly.
What do you have planned for the next 12 months? Any albums or festivals?
Signs Of Life is the first single from my new mini album due out in June. We have lots of gigs and festivals confirmed (see here for full listings: https://tourbox.songkick.com/artists/1948312/calendar).
Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
If I had to choose one person it would probably be Adam Duritz from Counting Crows. He's a great writer and lyricist and I'd love to write with him.
Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
I was once opening for Cara Dillon in a venue I won't name and was told I could only have something to eat before the show if she and her party didn't finish their food 😂
What is the one thing that you want readers to know about you?
I wouldn't make the music I am making without the input and support of Stefano - we've supported each other through some tough times and the music we are releasing at the moment is the result of this.
