The Gravity Drive
Every Monday we will be bringing you an unsigned singer or band as part of our Independent Music Monday feature. This week, we caught up with duo The Gravity Drive find out more about them…
Who is in the duo, how did you meet, where are you from and how did you come up with the duo name?
We are Elijah and Ava Wolf and we are The Gravity Drive, we married and started making music together in Dorset.
We were introduced to each other by Ava's brother.
We'd spent many months flicking through all sorts of books waiting for the right name to jump out at us. We eventually found the name in a book called 'Supernatural'
Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
Growing up it was The Beatles, David Bowie, Simon & Garfunkel, The Rolling Stones, Oasis, The Verve, Radiohead and Nirvana.
Modern influences would be Lana Del Ray, Disclosure, Radiohead, Thurston Moore and Coldplay.
How would you describe your sound?
Post apocalyptic pop.
What is your latest single called and what was the influence behind it?
We just released an Unplugged EP. The inspiration for that was based in the fact that our singles and albums tend to be big productions and are multi layered arrangements. We wanted to put out an EP which showcased the simplicity of song and our voices working together.
What's your local music scene like?
It's a thriving, supportive, enthusiastic and encouraging scene.
What do you have planned for the next 12 months? Any albums or festivals?
We are currently completing our second album. We are currently developing a new episodic online TV show through which we will be showcasing our new music and will have featured guests. If you like our Facebook page we will keep you posted.
Is there anyone you'd love to collaborate with?
Ava: Thom Yorke
Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
We were once invited to play at an indoor festival and were asked to play an acoustic set.
Halfway through our first song a thrash metal band started playing in the next room which was separated by a paper thin wall.
It wasn't that funny then but it's funny now.
What is the one thing that you want readers to know about your duo?
We work f***ing hard and we're going to have it.
