Every Monday we will be bringing you an unsigned singer or band as part of our Independent Music Monday feature. This week, we caught up with Chasing Deer find out more about them...
Who is in the band, how did you meet, where are you from and how did you come up with the band name?
Rob - Vocals + Keyboard
Adam - Drums + Backing Vocals
Peter - Guitar + Backing Vocals
Patrick - Bass + Backing Vocals
We met in Stratford-upon-Avon and formed Chasing Deer, with the name inspiration coming from the viral video of Fenton the Dog. See the origin story here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hee5Y35IGKc.
Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
We have always been inspired by older music with the Beatles, Bowie and Dire Straits being band favourites. Now we listen to all types of music to inspire us to write better songs with artists such as Bastille, The Lumineers and more.
How would you describe your sound?
80’s infused pop/rock!
What is your latest single called and what was the influence behind it?
Our latest single is called 'Another World', released on 27th April and was influenced by the futuristic music of the 80’s especially David Bowie. Also, buying a Keytar!
What’s your local music scene like?
We live in London - the historical home of hundreds of fantastic artists. We are motivated with the hope of joining that illustrious list.
What do you have planned for the next 12 months? Any albums or festivals?
We will be releasing a new single on the last Friday of every month, each with stunning artwork featuring British Sign Language. This will culminate in an album at the end of the year.
Festival appearances will include London's largest free festival Hanwell Hootie on May 12th, Pride in London in Trafalgar Square on July 7th and Lakefest on August 10th.
Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
Chasing Deer have always collaborated with a range of musicians since the beginning. There are so many names, we are currently getting round to working with some fantastic local acts we have discovered. Watch this space!
Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
With the benefit of hindsight, we can laugh about this one now! We were busking on the streets of Amsterdam last summer when a dog walker passed by and dropped in some money. The dog wasn't such a fan, stopped behind and left his own deposit in our guitar case.
What is the one thing that you want readers to know about your band?
We have a fun, energetic show with catchy songs. Readers can be part of our journey every month by following us on Spotify, and see what we do every day behind the scenes on all social media.
