Every Monday we will be bringing you an unsigned singer or band as part of our Independent Music Monday feature. This week, we caught up with 50 Year Storm find out more about them...

Who is in the band, how did you meet and where are you from?
50 Year Storm are formed of Damon our front man and synth player, Emma our drummer and Andy on guitars. We all live in Newquay in Cornwall and met up on a heavy night at a local ale festival. Damon was a known front man having been in several other successful local bands and Emma and Andy were keen to work with him.

Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
[Damon] Vocally it has to be the powerful delivery of Roy Orbison and then Mike Oldfield inspired me a lot with his use of synthesizers.
[Emma] Cream, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors and Pink Floyd, my parents raised me well!
[Andy] Noel Gallagher definitely inspired me to pick up a guitar, but Peter Green, Paul Kossoff and Grahan Coxon are my biggest influences.
We're all quite diverse in our tastes now really and enjoy a bit everything!

How would you describe your sound?
Diverse! We find it quite hard to summarise, we're keen to make fresh sounds and don't want to get stuck in a rut, so we like to mix up genres and harmonies. We think it's fair to say our music is always recognisably us though, despite the variety.

A lot of people describe it as filmic and like it could feature on a Tarantino soundtrack - we'd love that!

What is your latest single called and what was the influence behind it?
Our latest single is called 'BULLEIT' (pronounced "bullet"). It all came together pretty organically, we were jamming late one Friday night whilst sharing a bottle of Bulleit whiskey and it just formed!

What’s your local music scene like?
There're so many talented bands in Cornwall right now, honestly the musicianship is insanely good. There are some great venues about that get behind original music and the Cornish people are really supportive.

What do you have planned for the next 12 months? Any albums or festivals?
We've got a few more singles lined up for release throughout the rest of year, we may record another E.P. at some point, but are enjoying being able to put stuff out more regularly with singles. You're battling against a lot of noise these days, so we like to keep people's interest that way.

We've just confirmed a really exciting festival with Bulleit Bourbon called 'Bulleit Palooza' in Vienna on 30th June. They love our single and so invited us along. It sounds insane! Big motorbikes, burlesque dancing, Bulleit-based drinks made by firebreathing cocktail makers! We can't wait, it's going to be one hell of a roadtrip!

Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
We're planning to video some acoustic versions of our tracks shot in one of our lounges. We're keen to get local musicians in on the fun with us, who knows it could grow into something beautiful, maybe Corey Taylor would like to join us one day!

Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
Yeah we've had a few interesting gigs! It's famous in Cornwall after making the papers, a sewer overflowed on a Halloween rock night we'd organised. That was pretty horrific but we look back and laugh now!

Also the stage got struck by lightning too recently at a charity festival, we lost all power but Emma kept drumming. Power came back 10 seconds later and we carried the song on, it was pretty magical, almost like we'd rehearsed it.

What is the one thing that you want readers to know about your band?
Hmm, that Damon our front man, once tattooed his own...! We'll leave it to your readers to complete that sentence in the comments section!
