Every Monday we will be bringing you an unsigned singer or band as part of our Independent Music Monday feature. This week, we caught up with YVES to find out more...

Who is in the band, how did you meet and where are you from?
Harry Roke (guitar + vocals), Mitchell Dodson (bass) and Finn Wilkinson (drums + backing vocals). We’ve known each other since we were about 12, we used to play in two different bands in and around Swindon and we’d always be playing the same shows, when those bands both finished Mitch and I both knew Finn would be the perfect fit to starting something new.

Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
I think we were all brought up mainly on a lot of classic rock ’n’ roll, but then got into bands like The Strokes, The Maccabees and Arctic Monkeys when we were at school. We all have quite eclectic tastes now, but I think one we all resonate with Queens of the Stone Age.

How would you describe your sound?
Dark, anthemic and loud.

What is your latest single called and what was the influence behind it?
Our latest single is called 'Where Do We Go From Here?’ and it sort of delves into discussing the vulnerability you can feel within society, especially down to things like social media and the impact that can have on people and their mental health. It’s something that a lot of people can relate to and I think we just want to raise the conversation around it.

What’s your local music scene like?
It’s really starting to grow at the moment - when we first started out in 2016 there was literally no one to play with and now theres definitely more and more bands popping up which is so great to see.

What do you have planned for the next 12 months? Any albums or festivals?
We’re getting back out on the road in October with another headline tour which we can’t wait for - we love being on the road. And a lot of new music to release.

Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
I think Josh Homme would be an absolute dream - he’s just the coolest guy ever.

Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
We were driving back from a gig in Stoke once and Finn smashed the passenger window of our van by accident with 100 miles to go, in the middle of November… very cold.

What is the one thing that you want readers to know about your band?
Tickets for our headline tour are on sale now and you should get one - www.yvesband.co.uk/on-tour
