Every Monday we will be bringing you interviews with unsigned UK or Ireland artists for Independent Music Monday. Recently we caught up with Lisa Keane to find out more…

Where are you from and how did you first get into music?
I'm from Dublin, Ireland. I've been singing for as long as I remember. I began singing lessons at young age and began writing songs in my early teens after teaching myself how to play a few chords on the guitar and piano.
I'm currently in my final year of studying songwriting in BIMM Dublin.

Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
I have so many influences, it's so hard to choose! Taylor Swift is really the artist who got me into songwriting. I've always loved listening to different styles of music from Fleetwood Mac to Arctic Monkeys to Miguel.
At the moment, I'm really into Lennon Stella, Maggie Rogers and Dermot Kennedy.

How would you describe your sound?
I would describe my style as pop with influences of R&B and Jazz.

What is your latest single called and what was the influence behind it?
My latest single is called 'Colours'. It was written about 2 years ago for a songwriting class in college. We had to write a song based on an art form and I found a poem describing a breakup using metaphors of colours and painting and from there 'Colours' just flowed.

What’s your local music scene like?
It's really great. There are so many talented acts in Dublin and Ireland. Especially as a student of BIMM, I get to experience this day to day and it's so cool. There's always a new song out or a gig to go to!

What do you have planned for the next 12 months? Any albums or festivals?
I'm planning on releasing my second single in the coming months. I'm going to follow that up with my debut EP.

Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
There are so many to choose from!! I think I would have to go with Taylor Swift though!

Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
About a year ago, I was playing at an acoustic gig and nearly fell off a wonky stool mid song and threw my pick half way across the room as a result of trying to save myself.

What is the one thing that you want readers to know about you?
I write, arrange, record and produce my own music. I love seeing how a song can develop from vocals and a piano/guitar to a full arrangement.
