Every Monday we will be bringing you interviews with unsigned UK or Ireland artists for Independent Music Monday. Recently we caught up with unsigned Manchester band Sundown Hounds to find out more…

Who is in the band, how did you meet, where are you from and how did you come up with the band name?
Alex Cohen, Joe Hilton, Jim Arkwright, Nick French from the great city of Manchester. Jim and Nick started the band as they knew each other as Jim used to play football with Nick's dad (Jim is the old man of the group). Then Joe and Alex joined the band after seeing ads online. We all wanted something with hounds at the end and that’s what fit together the best.

Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Cream, Black Sabbath, Radiohead, The Black Keys, Foo Fighters.

How would you describe your sound?
Bluesy rock with a bit of pop but also indie and definitely not cringey.

What is your latest release called and what was the influence behind it?
We released our EP Cabaret Kicks with the tracks Gimme a Taste, Happy Clappy and Shark Tank. There was no major influences apart from a bit of Hendrix in Shark Tank. We just came up with the songs in practice apart from Happy Clappy which Alex wrote and then played it to the group.

What’s your local music scene like?
Manchester so obviously awesome.

What do you have planned for the next 12 months? Any albums or festivals?
More recordings and live dates in Manchester and hopefully elsewhere.

Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
No we are our own band we don’t need anyone else.

Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
Nicky always falls off his drum stool, Joe always drops his guitar.

What is the one thing that you want readers to know about you?
That our past recordings haven’t given our live shows their true value so if you’re in or around Manchester you should definitely come and watch us because we’re above average and there will be booze wherever we are.
