Come At The King

Every Monday we will be bringing you interviews with unsigned UK or Ireland artists for Independent Music Monday. Recently we caught up with Max from unsigned London based band Come At The King to find out more...

Who is in the band, how did you meet, where are you from and how did you come up with the band name?
Cal on drums, Laurence on bass, Max on guitar - Cal and I (Max) met through a mutual friend and wanted to start a band after going to Glasto - I work with Lauro, who is a musical whizz and plays loads of instruments so told him to go buy a bass and he's in a band. We're from Hertfordshire, Suffolk and Yorkshire, but now are a bunch of East London geezas. As for the name of the band... Hey yo listen here Bey, you come at the king, you best not miss.

Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
We're all pretty universal on musical influences - we grew up with Oasis, the early 00's garage rock revival and the Arctic Monkeys indie garage band boom - so White Stripes, Strokes, Libertines, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - the usual.

How would you describe your sound?
Rock and fucking roll.

What is your latest release called and what was the influence behind it?
Where's That Smile, Boy? is a filthy dirty rock and roll tune that blends the fury and fun of our first release, Minesweep with the blues and groove of Shudder. It's about a couple who hate each other but how some people think that is what being in a relationship is about.

What’s your local music scene like?
It's good - a lot going on in London, which is tough - and London seems to like shit like Billie Eilish or whatever her name is, but rock and roll is coming back.

What do you have planned for the next 12 months? Any albums or festivals?
We will be releasing our first EP towards the end of this year and have some big gigs coming up at some amazing venues. We will be looking to get on to any festival we can next summer.

Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
Would love to have Mike Skinner spitting some bars on one of our tracks.

Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
Na, we take this shit seriously. We have had a major sound fuck up once, but still had all the girls chuck their bras at us at the end of the show though... Seriously.

What is the one thing that you want readers to know about you?
Laurence is one of the most beautiful men you'll ever see - Need to see him in the flesh.
