Every Monday we will be bringing you interviews with unsigned UK or Ireland artists for Independent Music Monday. Recently we caught up with unsigned London based singer Jamws to find out more…
Where are you from and how did you first get into music?
I'm from a small town called Chatham in Kent but I've been living in London for 7 years.
I have been into music for as long as I can remember, my dad was a songwriter and so music was always around.
Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
At school I was a rock kid so I listened to a lot of nu-metal - Rage Against The Machine, Limp Bizkit etc.
My tastes are a little more varied these days, my faves atm are Tame Impala, Blood Orange, Kanye West, Tyler The Creator and Everything Everything.
How would you describe your sound?
Colourful Alt Pop.
What is your latest release called and what was the influence behind it?
My new single 'Kismet' is about having faith that you are on the right track. Battling my own demons of self-doubt and anxiety, it's easy to spiral; it's a song for anyone who knows the feeling and needs lifting.
What’s your local music scene like?
I'm blessed to live in London, there is so much live music, it's the best.
What do you have planned for the next 12 months? Any albums or festivals?
I will be releasing more singles and then get around to writing an EP or an album.
Bigger and better shows in London and getting out to some new cities too.
Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
Tyler the Creator is the dream.
Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
Nothing yet, I dance quite a lot so I'm pretty sure I'll fall over one day.
What is the one thing that you want readers to know about you?
It's pronounced 'Jam-Wus'.
