Every Monday we will be bringing you interviews with unsigned UK or Ireland artists for Independent Music Monday. Recently we caught up with unsigned London based singer Francesca Louise to find out more…
Where are you from and how did you first get into music?
From North West of UK, currently based in London. Always had music in my family so was only a matter of time before I began making it my career.
Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
Carole King, Celine Dion, Avril Lavigne, Eva Cassidy whilst growing up.
Lucy Rose, Jade Bird, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Fleetwood Mac now!
How would you describe your sound?
Folk/Pop storytelling lyricist, with a soulful and raw vocal.
What is your latest release called and what was the influence behind it?
Latest release was 'Birds'. Influence: I was at a crossroads in my life and couldn't make a decision as to whether to uproot and jump into another opportunity or remain in the position I was in at the time (music related situation). Then final incentive to write the song was during vacation in Greece. Talking about my situation with a relative I saw birds flying across the sea front over cliffs, and wished I could be a bird and not have to commit to one thing or another but instead fly from one location to another with no ties or responsibilities.
What’s your local music scene like?
In London it is very concentrated, full of creatives. This can be both a good thing and a bad thing. It serves my artistry well as inspiration is on my doorstep, but the availability to perform is fewer and far between!
What do you have planned for the next 12 months? Any albums or festivals?
I am releasing a new single this month as well as an extended video of new music! Application for festivals will be starting in the next couple of months and I am putting feelers out for some more support slots!
Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
Lucy Rose! She is such a big inspiration to me. As well as her, I would love to work with Billie Marten. Her songwriting is so unique.
Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
I have smacked my glasses on the microphone a couple of times - hey ho!
I also forgot to de-tune one of my guitar strings between songs, and when it came to the first chord of that next song, well, let us just say it wasn't pretty!
What is the one thing that you want readers to know about you?
What you see is what you get. I'm a nature loving, crochet obsessed, hopelessly romantic singer songwriter from the north west. (That's more than one thing but it's one statement I guess!)
