Every Monday we will be bringing you interviews with unsigned UK or Ireland artists for Independent Music Monday. Recently we caught up with Alex from unsigned Sheffield band FEARS. to find out more…
Who is in the band, how did you meet, where are you from and how did you come up with the band name?
Brothers Joe and Adam Pearce, Alex Pendleton and Craig Hadfield. We are all from Sheffield. We thought of the band name when we was on our way to the gym and me (Alex) and Craig was talking about how much we feared the place! We didn’t last long there.
Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
We listened to Green Day religiously together when we was younger but now we get a lot of our influences from the 80’s, such as bands like The Smiths, Joy Division and New Order.
How would you describe your sound?
I’d describe our sound as raw and energetic! Very different to what you would hear on the radio.
What is your latest release called and what was the influence behind it?
Our latest single is called Grey Matter, it’s basically about being stood up. Another heartbreak song.
What’s your local music scene like?
It’s AMAZING! So many amazing gigs and bands coming out of Sheffield! The music scene here is on fire!
What do you have planned for the next 12 months? Any albums or festivals?
We’ve got A LOT planned but can’t say anything just yet but we are in the studio in September… that’s all you are getting.
Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
I’d love to work with Yannis Philippakis from FOALS, he’s just a genius! Also Johnny Marr, incredible guitarist.
Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
One that always makes me laugh is when we played a show in Stoke-on-Trent on Halloween and we all dressed up, Adam our drummer decided to wear a Pikachu onesie and then stage dive at the end of the show. Never thought I’d see Pikachu crowd surfing.
What is the one thing that you want readers to know about you?
Just keep an eye on us, we’ve got a lot in the works that’s very exciting.
