Music interview: Tomike

Every Monday we will be bringing you interviews with unsigned UK or Ireland artists for Independent Music Monday. Recently we caught up with unsigned Dublin singer Tomike to find out more…

Where are you from and how did you first get into music?
I am from Dublin Ireland. I first got into music at home at a very young age, my parents always had music playing in the house, from Sade to Anita Baker to Kenny G, and my mom says that I used to always ask for music related gifts on birthdays and Christmas.

Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
Growing up I was highly influenced by soul jazz and blues so the likes of Etta James, Anita Baker, Sade, Amy Winehouse, Ella Fitzgerald.

How would you describe your sound?
I would describe my sound as Neo soul, with elements of jazz and R&B.

What is your latest release called and what was the influence behind it?
My latest release is called “Whisper” the Influence for this song came from a place of frustration. I wanted to be honest and very transparent in this song. The song is about an introvert who finds it difficult to open up about their sexual desires. This is something that is always frowned upon amongst women.

What’s your local music scene like?
My local music scene is growing and improving day by day although we still have a long way to go but I most definitely see a major Improvement in comparison to previous years.

What do you have planned for the next 12 months?
Releasing and creating a lot of music. Hopefully more live gigs and festivals, and a lot of self care.

Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
Yes I would love to collaborate with LayFullStop I love her vibe and her flow.

What is the one thing that you want readers to know about you?
One thing I want readers to know about me is that I like to live each day knowing that I’ve done something that brings me a little step closer to where I want to be in life.
