Every Monday we will be bringing you interviews with unsigned UK or Ireland artists for Independent Music Monday. Recently we caught up with unsigned Fife singer Cody Feechan to find out more…
Who is in the band and how did you first get into music?
I played acoustic sets for numerous years which I absolutely loved and still do. I got together with the guys in the band back in 2018 when I released my debut single ‘Manhattan Sky’. The guys in the band are amazing and they make my songs what they are. Keir Smith (Lead Guitar), James McMurray (Keyboard & Backing Vocals), James Martin (Bass) and Stephen MacLeod (Drums). A lot of the songs I play with the band I’d done acoustically for a long time but playing them with the band brings a whole new dynamic to the songs which I love.
Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
I have always loved someone with a unique voice and who sounds different. Janis Joplin has always been at the top of my list, her vocals are just amazing. Suzi Quatro is another! Other influences include Kelly Jones, Stevie Nicks, The Cranberries and The Proclaimers etc.
How would you describe your sound?
I always find this a difficult question to answer as I think a lot of my songs sound quite different. I always describe it as alternative rock with a touch of pop. Although I have touched on other genres on some of my songs.
What is your latest release called and what was the influence behind it?
My latest single ‘Breathe’ was released in March 2021 and it seems to have had a great response. The track had great success in the iTunes Chart and Amazon Music Chart which was amazing! The song is basically about going through a bit of a tough time and feeling like you’re under a lot of pressure. It’s about feeling like you’re reaching breaking point and struggling to ‘Breathe’.
What’s your local music scene like?
My local music scene is pretty decent. There are so many amazing artists in Fife at the moment that are doing so well. It’s so good to see other artists from my area doing well! It’s important to support each other and help each other along the way!
What do you have planned for the next 12 months?
I cannot wait to get back gigging! I am so excited now that live music is gradually making a return! There could definitely be a few other releases in the near future too. Keep an eye on my social media pages for updates on this.
Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
There are so many! A collaboration with Kelly Jones would be amazing! I’ve always wanted to do a collaboration with Macklemore, I think he is great! I am a really big fan of Tom Grennan at the moment too. His new album is phenomenal, I can listen to his voice all day. I certainly wouldn’t turn down a collaboration with him.
Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
I remember back when I first starting gigging I was doing an acoustic set and I forgot the words to one of my songs (I don’t know how it’s possible to forget the words to my own song but I somehow managed it). Then my best friend was in the audience and starting belting out my song. It was pretty funny!
What is the one thing that you want readers to know about you?
I am a passionate singer-songwriter who loves to perform!
