Music interview: Inkfields

Every Monday we will be bringing you interviews with unsigned UK or Ireland artists for Independent Music Monday. Recently we caught up with unsigned Edinburgh artist Inkfields to find out more…

Where are you from and how did you first get into music?
I’m from Edinburgh, Scotland. I originally got into doing music properly after an after work street music experiment in Dresden, Germany. I ended up quitting my job and focusing on music.

Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
Growing up I was inspired by Muse, Coldplay, Radiohead and Arctic Monkeys. Now I draw inspiration from Tame Impala, Parcels and still Coldplay!

How would you describe your sound?
My sound combines rock, indie, pop and psychedelic.

What is your latest release called and what was the influence behind it?
‘Got it All’ was my latest release. It was inspired by the inequality in society and the evident lengthening gap between rich and poor, but also the idea that wealth doesn’t bring happiness.

What’s your local music scene like?
Edinburgh has a small bustling music scene that really comes alive in August for the Fringe festival.

What do you have planned for the next 12 months?
I have a lot of releases planned, including my last ever physical record. I decided to stop releasing physical records to achieve my aim of being a zero waste act.

Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
Dave Grohl seems like a cool guy. Other than that a jam with Cosmo Sheldrake could be fun!

Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
Too many to tell! My dog Mel once attended a concert. She was sleeping at the back of the room, but when I took out my harmonica, she walked through the crowd to the front and howled with me.

What is the one thing that you want readers to know about you?
That I have a second act called ‘State of Green‘. I release music under that name too, but the primary focus is conservation and tree planting!
